VolkerWessels Telecom takes part in Roparun and donates residual value of old IT equipment to fight cancer

VolkerWessels Telecom participated for the first time this year in the Roparun, a multi-day relay race to raise money for palliative care for people with cancer and their loved ones. The high-end infrastructure specialist's old hardware raised €18,000 via the ITdonations foundation as a donation for its participation in the Roparun.

From its various branches, VolkerWessels Telecom rigged up a 22-strong team of participants. The team consisted of runners, cyclists, navigators, cooks, drivers, a masseur and a team captain.

Emotional stories

"I know someone who has participated in the Roparun and have seen the emotions that are released at the finish line," says Camper Driver Marieke Molenschot. "It is nice that you can make yourself useful even if you are not so good at running." Navigator Carel Aalbers: "I have seen the struggle of a colleague with this terrible disease. This motivated me to participate. The stories touch me deeply and I think it's great to see how Roparun contributes to palliative care."

Common goal

Team captain Welmoed van Dijken: "We all work at a big company, where you by no means know all your colleagues. I think it's very cool to see that we are working with a diverse club towards this common goal. I have seen how much palliative care can mean and it makes me proud that we are committed to this as a company. Moreover, our old hardware has provided another wonderful donation of 18,000 euros. We are very happy about that!" Via IT service provider NEG-ITSolutions, VolkerWessels Telecom came on the trail of the ITdonations Foundation.
